Three Biblical
books - called megillot (scrolls) - are traditionally
read during the Spring festivals: Esther (Purim), Song
of Songs (Passover) and Ruth (Shavuot). Each has a unique
theme: the interplay of the revealed and the unrevealed,
the exposed and the disguised, the comic and the tragic
(Esther); unrequited love and the interplay of intimacy
and remoteness (Song of Songs); and the interplay between
the virtue of mercy and the virtue of Justice (Ruth).
Join Irit Koren, doctoral candidate in Gender Studies
at Bar-Ilan University and Director of Alma NY, and
video artist Ofri Cnaani, in examining these themes
and how they relate to our lives through the lens of
classic Jewish text and moden works of video-art, installation
and photography.
